Supporting Local Makers & Downtown Raleigh Since 2012
Since DECO opened in 2012, our mission statement has always been to build community and support local artisans and makers. There is so much talent that lives here in Raleigh and we believe that talent should be showcased and celebrated!
Over the years, we have worked with hundreds of local artisans and makers, including some of our staff. But selling local goods is only the beginning; we also coach our independent vendors on product and business development and work with regional partners like the GRCVB, RDU Airport, the Raleigh Civic and Convention Center and local hotels to promote local goods. Since day 1, we have been especially committed to identifying and supporting artisans, vendors, products and organizations that encourage diversity, inclusion and empowerment.
As members of the Downtown Raleigh community, team DECO works actively to support creative efforts both small and large. DECO sponsored and helped design Raleigh’s first parklet with a team from NC State College of Design, we sponsored Raleigh’s first sidewalk mural, by artist Jenn Hales, and we worked closely with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance to open downtown’s first Pop-Up Shop followed by an art installation in the same vacant storefront. The Raleigh Mural Project worked with us to fund several of the first public/private murals in downtown, and we have funded public art projects with St. Augustine University, the City of Raleigh, and Artspace. Our team has served in countless volunteer/leadership positions for organizations from Hopscotch and Dreamville to The Green Chair Project and ShopSpace. Why? Because we love this city and want to keep making it better.
DECO X CANES
If you’re from North Carolina, you’ve probably heard a thing or two about the Carolina Hurricanes. Raleigh is home to the Carolina Hurricanes, and not to brag but totally bragging, Caniacs go WILD for their team! There’s a reason Lenovo Center is known for being the loudest house in the NHL.
We are thrilled to be in our fourth year as parthers with the Carolina Hurricanes, bringing to Raleigh unique, local products that celebrate the Canes. Exclusive to DECO, you will only find this merchandise on our website, in our store and at Root & Branch (RDU Airport, partially owned by DECO’s owner).
For every DECO X CANES sale, we donate 5% of the profit to The Carolina Hurricanes Foundation.
Have ideas or interest in creating DECO X CANES merchandise? Get in touch with us here!
We want to continue to bring fresh, new products to the Caniacs and we are always open to ideas and feedback.
Why is shopping local so important?
Shopping local is a true commitment to your own community. We all shop at Target and on Amazon at times, that’s not the point. The REAL point is that when you have an option to do your shopping and dining in your hometown, you should. Your dollars do more than support the shop or restaurant, they support staff who live in our town, they support local taxes that improve our city, and in the case of DECO, they support hundreds of local and regional independent businesses. Be sure to check out ALL of the independent businesses in Downtown Raleigh at this link, hosted by the Downtown Raleigh Alliance.
