Gina moved to North Carolina in 2005 to escape the frigid winters of Wisconsin. While working in graphic design and publishing after college, she and a friend dreamed up the concept for the Crystal Squirrel, which was to repurpose and give new life to discarded items. The friend moved away, but a few years later while finishing graduate school, Gina put her sewing skills back to use by making mittens from repurposed wool sweaters. Gina learned from her aunt how to sew at a young age, and her aunt also instilled the idea of not wasting anything. This hobby has turned into a fun, creative side hustle. She tries to use recycled fabric and materials as much as possible to create unique, useful accessories and gifts.
Gina lives in Durham and loves to thrift and "hunt" for treasures. Her main hustle is being a high school counselor, which is rewarding in different ways.
