Throwback Thursday Tour

  • Oakwood Cemetery 701 Oakwood Avenue Raleigh, NC, 27601 United States (map)

When the railroad came to Raleigh in 1840 it opened our city to the nation. Coaches filled with artists, businessmen and enough ne’er do wells to fill a coal tender arrived in Raleigh daily. Hear about the impact the railroad had on this great city and the role it played in reconstruction.

Tour subject matter and theming is designed for adult audiences, the cemetery asks that attendees are over 16 and able to walk 1 mile over uneven terrain with limited shade. Tours are free, but we ask for a $5 donation per person;  donations support the preservation of the cemetery and our educational programs. Attendees are encouraged to bring water. All tours will begin at 6:30.
